Artist: Robert Indiana Medium: Original Lithograph, 1977 Dimensions: 24 x 20 in, 60.9 x 50.8 cm Arches Paper - Very Good Condition Starting in 1965, Indiana collaborated with composer Virgil Thompson to design the sets and costumes for Gertrude Stein's 1947 opera "Mother of us All." Based on the life of Susan B. Anthony, who was one of the most famous proponents of women's suffrage in the U.S., the opera was presented as part of a Bicentennial celebration in 1976 by the Santa Fe Opera. Indiana made over 200 paper collages of his costumes and set designs. This portfolio was printed in Paris by Mourlot. Published by Leon Amiel, New York. Some of these collages were on view at the Whitney Museum of Art at the Robert Indiana retrospective, until January 5th, 2014. Paper size is 24 x 20 inches, image size is 18 x 14 inches, plus full margins. There are " Bon a Tirer" and artist's proofs, aside from the regular edition of 150. Most are signed in pencil in the lower right margin. Some are annotated with correction by the hand of the artist. Ref: Sheehan 105
